Enjoy spectacular view on the bike tour of the countryside of Sapporo
With cycling being quite popular now, bike tours have really been catching on in and around Sapporo. Even if you are not familiar with the area, don’t worry?your guide will take you to spots that are sure to interest you. In this article, let me introduce three different cycling courses!
One of my recommendations is the “One-day Sapporo Vicinity Tour”, where you can enjoy panoramic views of Hokkaido. Transportation will be provided both ways between your hotel and Shinshinotsu Village, the tour’s starting point. From here, you will cycle 40 kilometers to Tobetsu Town and Ishikari City, then cycle back to where you started. In the course of this four-hour tour, you will cover 80 kilometers in total.
The course includes a straight road that stretches over 5km, moderate ups and downs, and winding farm roads. You can enjoy the countryside, rolling hills in farming communities, and a straight road stretching to the Japan Sea. On this tour you will see various attractive views and encounter almost no traffic lights!
Our starting point is Shinotsu Park, a forty-five minute drive from Sapporo.
It’s so refreshing to see no vehicles while you cycle on a wide straight road.

Cycle through a community that looks like a European village
On the way toward Ishikari City, you can take breaks at several spots for views and photos.
The turn-around point at Morai, Ishikari City, is definitely the highlight of the tour with its spectacular view! You are sure to be impressed with the panoramic view of the beautiful mountain ranges along Ishikari Bay and the deep blue Japan Sea just in front of you..
Your local guide knows the best route. The sea is just around the bend.
When you get to the seaside hill of Ishikari and see the spectacular view of the Japan Sea, your body and soul will be refreshed!
Taking a different route on the way back from the turn-around point, we’ll head back to Shinshinotsu Village, our starting and finishing point. To conclude a full-day bike tour, we’ll have a late lunch and take a hot spring bath at Iris Spa in Shinshinotsu Village. Then the guide will drive you back to your hotel in Sapporo.
The bikes used on this tour are full-fledged road bikes with lots of speed. The guide says that the tour has been popular with all age groups, ranging from junior high students to people in their 60s. He also says that the course and speed of the tour will be tailored to the physical strength and the preferences of the participants. You don’t have to bring anything with you. The guide will provide you with all the necessary items, such as gloves and helmets.
We can feel the breeze as we just coast down the hill on the way back.
On the way back, we started thinking about soaking in the hot spring bath to relax our tired joints and muscles.
We’re almost there.

Sapporo City Cycling?all major spots in just two hours
Road bikes fit right into the cityscape.
On this tour, we’ll visit 10 major sightseeing spots, including Sapporo Clock Tower.
On one of the popular bike tours, called “Sapporo City Cycling”, you can enjoy visiting major sights in the downtown area.
This two-hour tour that covers 12 kilometers starts from Nakajima Park and visits Odori Park, the campus of Hokkaido University, Nijo Fish Market, and Tanukikoji Arcaded Shopping Mall.
A short tour that includes visits to most of the major sightseeing spots, it is popular with tourists who only have a short time, say half a day, in Sapporo.
Starting point: a cycling path on the bank of the Toyohira River.
Run freely in the woods on an MTB tour
For outdoor lovers, we recommend a half day MTB tour in the pristine forest of Nopporo Shinrin Koen Prefectural Park.
On this tour, you can enjoy immersing yourself in nature while riding on a smooth path through the vast forest. You can see wild flowers in season and may even encounter wild animals that live in the forest.
There are pretty good ups and downs on the way through the forest, which contains both conifers and broadleaves.
