| Outside the museum, you find the hatchery,
a big fish-wheel, called “Indian Water-Wheel” catching
a lot of salmon almost every day in the season of their returning
to the river where they were spawned, after spending a few years
in the ocean to make the new lives. From up the viewing point of
the bridge over the river, it’s clear large schools of salmon
is swimming, exhausted after the long journey, against the rapid
stream, tracing the scent of their ‘mother river’ Most
of them have a lot of damages all over their bodies, still going
to keep on swimming desperately. This is indeed an impressive moving
view. In the shops outdoors, you can buy salmon, or some kinds of
food.
Inside the museum, you find many corners for learning the ecology
of the fish, other families of salmon. Through video, you can learn
the life of salmon, somehow mysterious.
In some water-tanks, you can watch baby-fish dance to the music
!
Besides, you can trace the history of fishing salmon in Hokkaido
from the days of Ainu people.
How about buying a very unique paper craft of making salmon, this
is well made, looking like the real ones in the souvenir shop of
this museum?
