Enjoying forests and water

64% of Sapporo area is covered with forest (Sapporo City green basis plan book).

If you look at Sapporo from 10,000m above it, you will see lights shining in a fan shape, and irradiating toward the suburb. But you will also see in the heart of the city some areas with no lights at all: that would be Hokkaido University, Nakajima Park, or Makomanai Park. The South West and the West parts of Sapporo will be dark too: this is where the mountains of Shikotsu Toya National Park lie.

118 rivers take their source in Sapporo City. Brown bears, deer, woodpeckers, foxes lives in those deep mountains.

Lots of people of Sapporo spend their holidays in forest, looking for birds or plants, having fun in rivers, touring waterfalls, etc.
