Choice of Japanese restaurants from our
site (Japanese version).
Eating places with full English or other foreign language assistance
is rare, but many foreign visitors are still enjoying Japanese food.
Let's have fun at Izakaya!
As well as authentic Japanese restaurants, we have "Izakayas,"
where you can enjoy both tasty dishes and alcoholic beverages. Since
items on the menu are reasonably priced, "izakayas" are
popular among people from different walks of life, such as students,
business people and families with children. They have extensive
menus, covering not only sashimi (sliced raw fish), yakitori (skewered
grilled chicken) and other Japanese dishes, but also Chinese and
Western cuisine. It is also fun to go to an "izakaya"
dishes and try various dishes together.
Let's speak Japanese at an Izakaya!
Wining and dining in a large group is called "enkai" in
Japanese. We make a toast by saying "kampai" at the outset
of "enkai." Now where will you have your "enkai"
and at which "izakaya" tonight? Here are some words and
phrases you may use at an "izakaya."
Kampai! (Cheers!), Oishi (Delicious), Okawari
(Refill), Biru (Beer), Wain (Wine), Uisuki
(Whiskey), Kora (Coke), Ocha (Japanese tea), Toire
wa doko desuka? (Where is a rest room?), etc.

Kazaguruma
My annual trip back to Japan from Canada
would not be perfect without enjoying the perfect combination of
food and drink at Kazaguruma, my all-time favourite izakaya. Only
the ingredients that meet the high standard by “Taisho,”
owner and chef, are selected for exquisite dishes. You don’t
want to miss the sashimi that is prepared from freshly caught fish
and seashells right off the Hokkaido coast. The tasty dishes become
even tastier with a variety of sake from all over Japan. Kazaguruma
is the place that makes me realize that I’m back home. It
must be also the place that makes your trip to Hokkaido very unique!
