On a rolling hill, sheep graze. The hill affords a view of the Ishikari Plain, where Sapporo stands.
This contrast between idyllic rural scenery and the urbanity of Sapporo makes Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill one of the most popular sightseeing spots in Sapporo. The statue of Dr. Clark is the centerpiece of Hitsujigaoka. It’s a favorite location for taking pictures. The base of the statue is inscribed with Dr. Clark’s famous exhortation, “Boys, be ambitious!” These words epitomize the frontier spirit.
Hitsujigaoka Wedding Palace is a wedding hall. Its white exterior contrasts with the green of the trees. Visitors can enjoy griddle-cooked lamb and other Hokkaido specialties in the rest house while enjoying the view. And don’t miss the Sapporo Snow Festival Museum.
