This modern museum is in a residential area at the foot of Mt. Okura, a ski jump location. It houses about 1,400 sculptures and paintings of ShinHongo, a sculptor born in Sapporo, and other artists.
The museum consists of a main building, where sculptures are exhibited, and the Hongo ShinMemorial Museum, which houses his tools, prototypes of his sculptures and studies for his paintings. Visitors can understand how he worked.
A special exhibition is held annually.

Closed: Mon. (if the Mon. is a nat’l holiday, then closed that Tue. instead) and Dec. 29 – Jan. 3; in addition, there are extra holidays when exhibits change.

Access: From Nishi nijuhatchome Subway Sta. (Tozai Line), take the “Kan 20” JR Hokkaido Bus to the Chokoku bijutsukan-iriguchi bus stop, and then walk 10 min.
